Sicily Awaits: Ruins, Volcanoes & Baroque Towns
A 9-day journey through Palermo, Syracuse, Catania — street food, ancient ruins, Mount Etna, baroque architecture, and Taormina.
The journey
Nine days across Sicily's three corners — Palermo, Syracuse, Catania — covering the island's signature experiences. A guided street food tour through Palermo's mercati with tastings of arancini, panelle, and sfincione, the Norman mosaics of Cappella Palatina, the Greek temples at Agrigento's Valley of the Temples, the UNESCO baroque towns of Ragusa, Noto, and Modica by minivan, a guided nature walk on Mount Etna with lava cave and winery tasting, and a free day in Taormina. Sicily's history, food, volcanic landscape, and coastal beauty — lived, not rushed.
Highlights
- Palermo Street Food Tour through the historic markets A guided walking tour through Vucciria or Ballarò market with multiple tastings — arancini, panelle, sfincione, and the bold flavors that made Palermo a UNESCO World City of Gastronomy.
- Palazzo dei Normanni and Cappella Palatina Skip-the-line guided visit to Sicily's most iconic Norman monument — the royal palace and the byzantine-arab-norman mosaics that fuse three civilizations on a single ceiling.
- Valley of the Temples in Agrigento Guided tour of the largest archaeological park in the Mediterranean — Greek temples better preserved than most in Greece itself, set against an open landscape that hasn't changed in 2,500 years.
- Baroque Sicily by minivan — Ragusa, Noto, Modica A full-day guided minivan tour through the three UNESCO baroque towns of the Val di Noto — golden sandstone facades, historic centers carved in the same stone, and Modica's ancient chocolate tradition.
- Mount Etna nature walk with lava cave and winery tasting A guided experience on Europe's most active volcano — nature walk on the lava fields, lava cave exploration, and a winery tasting on Etna's volcanic slopes (the soil that produces some of Italy's most distinctive reds).
- Taormina day at leisure A round-trip train-and-bus excursion to Taormina — Sicily's most photographed coastal town, the Greek theatre overlooking the sea, and free time to explore independently.

Selling tips
- Sicily as a destination — the trend most American clients haven't acted on yet Sicily is one of the fastest-rising destinations in the American imagination — Stanley Tucci food shows, the second season of White Lotus in Taormina, the resurgence of The Godfather. Demand is building, but most clients still book mainland Italy by default. The angle for advisors who want to position themselves ahead of the curve, especially with returning Italy travelers.
- Three UNESCO sites in nine days — depth without rush Cappella Palatina, Valley of the Temples, and the Val di Noto baroque towns are all UNESCO World Heritage. Plus Mount Etna (UNESCO since 2013). Four UNESCO experiences in a single tour, paced with leisure time around them. The angle for clients who want cultural depth without the hurried 'see-it-all' format.
- The Etna day — a Sicily moment American clients won't have done before Mount Etna combines three things at once: nature (volcano hike), geology (lava caves), and food/wine (Etna wines on volcanic soil). Most clients have never done a wine tasting on an active volcano. The angle for foodie clients, geology-curious travelers, or anyone who wants a Sicily story to bring home.
